Linux Vs Windows

Yesterday my friends asked me about the differences between Windows and Linux as I am an avid Linux user. Some worth noticing differences between Linux and Windows are as follows:

  1. Cost factor: The first main difference between the two OS is their availability. While windows is targeted for commercial purposes , Linux is an opensource dude freely available (as in most cases).
  2. Opensource: As Linux is opensource it helps students and developers to understand its operation unlike windows where implementation is hidden from the user.
  3. Display: One worth noticing point in the warfare is the availability of three display managers in Linux (Gnome, KDE and XFCE) compared to the single display manager in windows. (eh ! No choice man.)
  4. Security: The point where each one of us would agree is the security in Linux. It uses MD5 password encryption by default and hence not easy to break
  5. No threat for Viruses: While using Linux one does not have to worry about viruses, adware, Trojans, spywares etc. Even they are as secure as other files on the drives .
  6. USB installation: Linux can be installed on a USB disk.
  7. Live images: Live images of distributions which help to diagnose, backup crucial data in case of emergency, and try new ones without actually installing it on your hard disk. Windows does not offer any such features.

There are many other differences which makes Linux a more powerful OS than windows. I have just briefed out some of them here.

My friends were convinced with these arguments, hope you must be satisfied too and must definitely agree to use Linux or at least give it a try.
